He was the author of a two surviving poems in octosyllabic verse, Joseph d'Arimathe and Merlin; Merlin survives only in fragments and in later prosification.

It told the early history of the Grail and linked this independent legend more firmly with Arthurian legend, using the prophetic figure 1200 – Robert de Boron writes his Joseph of Arimathea and claims the Holy Grail, the Cup of the Last Supper, is taken to Britain shortly after the Passion. Other Grail stories (such as the Vulgate Cycle ) emerge shortly after stating that Joseph actually brought the Grail to Avalon in Britain.
Joseph of Arimathea is mentioned by all four evangelists, in generally consistent accounts. Bible commentator Dwight Moody notes: "Read the four accounts given, in the four Gospels, of Joseph of Arimathea. There is very seldom anything mentioned by all four of the Evangelists. If Matthew and Mark refer to an event, it is omitted by Luke and Written around 1200 A.D., probably in monastic circles, this is one of the earliest accounts of the Grail and its importance. It traces the cup from the Last Supper into the company formed by Joseph of Arimathea.
